Her initial inspiration was the shadows that were cast onto grass. After a few weeks she devised a process that did not create the object she chose onto canvas in an unflat image. The image has been transformed to the artist's own image with the canvas taking an interpretation by the artist. It is most effective when dealing with living objects as well as items that have a shelf life like people or fruits. Alexa's style of painting is one of ephemeral, and only images of her work are preserved. Photography and painting are tightly together to produce an unflattering two-dimensional space that is a trompe l'oeil.
